A few years ago, Bell & Ross introduced a new take on their quite iconic style of square instrument-like watches with the launch of the BR 05 collection. Softer in look and feel, but still retaining the circle-within-a-square design ethos, this range of sports watches was positioned as the everyday watch for an active, urban lifestyle. The collection comprises a time-and-date automatic, an automatic chronograph and a travel-ready GMT, all measuring between 40 and 42mm in diameter. The latest addition to the BR 05 family is this white dial version, aptly named the Bell & Ross BR 05 GMT White.
From a design perspective, and on the mechanical side, nothing has changed for the Bell & Ross BR 05 GMT. It is still housed in a square-ish stainless steel case of 41mm in diameter. The height is relatively modest at 11,1mm including the sapphire crystal. The soft-rounded shape of the case is brushed on all sides, with broad polished bevels around the edges of the case and bezel. The latter one is fixed in place with four functional screws. The crown is protected from unwanted bumps by a pair of guards.
The big change for the BR 05 GMT White is, well, the opaline white dial instead of the initial black dial. Aesthetically this shows the same signature style for the hour numerals at 3/6/9/12, interchanged with baton style indices. It also features the same set of hands, all finished with Super-LumiNova. The central GMT hand stands out with its bright red triangular tip. The sloped 24-hour ring is now finished in silver and white, to connect the case with the dial. The date is displayed through the framed window at 3 o’clock.
Revealed by the sapphire crystal caseback (again a circle within a square) is the BR-CAL.325 automatic movement. Based on a Sellita SW 330, this runs at a frequency of 28,800vph and uses 25 jewels. Driven by a full-size skeletonized rotor, it has a maximum running time of 42 hours. It displays central hours, minutes and seconds, shows you the date, and allows you to independently set the central GMT hand through the crown.
The new Bell & Ross BR 05 GMT White comes on the same satin-brushed and polished stainless steel bracelet as the rest of the BR 05 collection. This tapers nicely from the sloped lug-side of the case down to the folding clasp, connected by the large polished centre link. As an alternative, Bell & Ross also offers it on a grooved black rubber strap, also with a folding clasp. The watch retails for EUR 4,800 on rubber, and EUR 5,300 on the steel bracelet. It can be pre-ordered now with deliveries in October 2022.
