Red color is perhaps the new in-vogue trend in wristwatches. We’ve seen a number of red dial watches over the months and in fact the last watch that we introduced was TAG Heuer Carrera in striking red dial just recently. Not the one to lag behind, Mido just released a new tribute model in their Ocean Star line with a chic red-black gradient dial; given they’ve done this before. The tribute models of Mido, in fact pay homage to the vintage Mido dive watches of the past. So now, let’s take a look at what this red-black dial stunner has to offer on the specs side.
The dial is certainly the star of the show and it’s going to be the first thing that will draw your attention towards the watch. It’s presented in beautiful red-black gradient format; one that’s crimson red at the center and gradually shifts towards the black as we move towards the outer periphery of the dial.
The black color at the outer edge of the dial provides a nice contrast to the thick printed rectangular indices, flat diamond-cut hour and minute hands and the triangular shape marker at 12 o’clock. The hour, minute and seconds hand are treated with Super- LumiNova. A rectangular day and date window can be found at 3 o’clock, it has white background and black markings. A box-shaped sapphire crystal serves to protect the dial.
The dial is affixed on a polished stainless steel case measuring 40.5mm x 13.4mm. A black aluminum insert serves a unidirectional rotating knurled bezel with markings and numerals in silver color and white Super-LumiNova dot at noon. The screw-down crown and screw-down caseback helps maintain a healthy 200 meters water resistance.
Ticking inside the Mido Ocean Star Gradient Tribute is calibre 80, which is based on the upgraded ETA C07.621. It beats at 3Hz frequency and provides an 80 hours power reserve. The movement is sealed on the back with caseback having a starfish.
Mido Ocean Star Gradient Tribute comes paired with a black rubber strap with a polished stainless steel pin buckle and a criss-cross design in relief, a nod to the models from 1960s. It retails at CHF 870.
