Queen Elizabeth has just celebrated her 96th birthday, which coincides with the 70th anniversary of her reign. A monumental moment, as she is the longest-reigning British monarch. To mark this special occasion, William Wood Watches introduces a Jubilee edition of its Triumph Chronograph. The brand that’s all about firefighting has opted for a striking combination of a bronze case and a purple colour scheme. This is the William Wood Watches Triumph Chronograph Bronze Jubilee, a combination of case material and colours first used in the Bronze Amethyst Five-Year Anniversary Edition.

The Bronze Jubilee is an adaptation of the Triumph Chronograph, with a 41mm diameter and a 15.5mm thick bronze case. On top sits a unidirectional bronze rotating bezel and a domed sapphire crystal (the main cause for the thickness). Two flat chronograph pushers flank the screw-down crown. Round the back, the fire-alarm themed caseback is decorated with an “In Case of Fire Break Glass” script and reveals the movement through a sapphire crystal.

The dial and chronograph hands, bezel insert, caseback and winding rotor are all finished in a loud purple tone. The sandwich construction of the dial reveals the Super-LumiNova layer underneath through cut-out indices and pressure-gauge shaped sub-dials. Time is indicated with sword-shaped hour and minutes hands in a bronze tone. Surrounding the dial is a chequered minute track mimicking the decorations found on vintage British fire trucks.

Movement-wise, the Triumph relies on the Sellita SW 510 automatic chronograph movement. Seen through the fire-alarm themed caseback, a special purple-finished rotor provides the energy to run, which tops out at 48 hours. It indicates central hour and minutes, small seconds at 9 o’clock, and, of course, the chronograph with central seconds and a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock. The final indication is the date, at 6 o’clock.

Just like all William Wood Watches, the Triumph Chronograph Jubilee is worn on an upcycled firehose strap. The material is sourced from actual firehoses used by fire brigades, all with a minimum of ten years of service. For this special edition, William Wood Watches has managed to find purple firehoses. The insert is set on a rubber base to keep it supple and is closed with a pin buckle. Other colours and styles are available, as shown in the image. The first batch is limited to 100 pieces and retails for GBP 2,795, excluding taxes.
