Following an array of new models for Watches & Wonders 2021, as well as the new and rather important Black Bay Ceramic, mostly noticeable because of its Master Chronometer certification, Tudor is unveiling yet another novelty and its first boutique edition watch. Based on the desirable, compact and vintage-oriented BB58 model, the brand launched a new bronze edition that is not only using this material for the case but also (and surprisingly) for the bracelet. Here is the new Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Bronze “Boutique Edition” watch.
The characteristic elements of the Black Bay Fifty- Eight Bronze watch are basically the same as the classic stainless steel editions, meaning a compact 39mm case with a reasonable height of 11.9mm. The shape is also the same, with the distinctive oversized and unprotected crown and the bevels running on the sides of the lugs – both signature elements of 1950s and 1960s dive watches of the Rolex Group. Finally, the 200m water-resistance is retained as well as the highly domed sapphire crystal covering the dial.
What’s new then? Well, obviously, the material is different but not entirely new to Tudor, which has used bronze twice on the Black Bay already, but always in 43mm cases. Entirely brushed, this lively metal is an aluminium bronze alloy that will gain relatively low amounts of patina. It is the first time that Tudor uses it in the ever-growing Black Bay Fifty-Eight collection. Another important update, and this time a first for the brand, is the introduction of a solid bronze bracelet. Retaining the classic brushed and riveted profile of other bracelets, it also comes with a new clasp with a quick adjustment, with 5 positions. All elements of the bracelet are made of bronze so that the entire watch will develop a consistent patina. An additional “brown-bronze” jacquard fabric strap with a central yellow stripe and bronze buckle is also included.
In typical Tudor style, the Black Bay Fifty-Eight Bronze is fitted with a brown dial and bezel combination. Both have a graduated matte “brown-bronze” colour, shaded concentrically from the exterior towards the centre. Also in line with previous bronze models, the baton markers at 3, 6 and 9 are replaced by applied Arabic numerals. All markers and hands are gold-coloured and filled with SLN. Inside the case, the BB58 bronze relies on the same movement as other models from this sub-collection: the COSC-certified calibre MT5400 with 70h power reserve and silicon balance spring.
