Inspired by the lush green natural surroundings of its Manufactory, Glashütte Original released a stunning Emerald colored variation of its modern dress watch offering PanoMaticLunar in 2020. Now, the brand has given the green dial PanomaticLunar a Red Gold makeover.

After seeing so many green watches released in the past couple of years, it would be safe to say that it is no longer an uncommon color. The dial on the PanoMaticLunar features a deep forest green shade which provides the perfect backdrop to the red gold hands, markers, and crisp white printing. To enhance visual interest the dial has also been given a nice gradient effect. It begins with a dark shade of green at the center and culminates into a blackish green hue towards the outer periphery. The signature asymmetrical dial layout remains intact.

The left of the dial is still occupied by two overlapping circular displays; the large one comprises applied baton markers and lume filled alpha-shaped hands, and the one below is the subsidiary second’s register. The right side of the dial houses the moon-phase indicator on top and the highly legible big date display at the bottom. There are a few subtle details worth appreciating on this variation compared to its stainless-steel sibling. For instance, the moon and the stars this time around have been presented in a golden tone. Furthermore, the white date on a black background blends well with the green background.

The case remains identical to its steel sibling in terms of design and dimensions but uses 18kt red gold in its construction. It measures a modest 40mm in diameter and has a thickness of around 12.7mm. The case looks warmer compared to the steel variant and the use of precious metal also means that the case would have a reassuring heft, something that is generally associated with high-quality luxury watches. The finishing is top-notch, with the entire case showing a beautiful interplay between brushed and polished surfaces. The case is water-resistant to 50 meters which isn’t bad for a dress watch.

Powering this watch is Glashütte Original’s in-house automatic calibre 90-02. This movement operates at a frequency of 4 Hz and offers a respectable power reserve of around 42 hours. The movement is a beauty to look at and features Glashütte stripes, blued screws, an off-centered 21k gold oscillating weight, hand-beveled bridges, and intricate engravings on the balance bridge.

The new Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar Red gold comes attached to a green alligator strap and would retail for EUR18,400.
