The Crown unveils a trio of Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona watches fitted with meteorite dials during the 2021 edition of Watches & Wonders. The Everose and yellow gold versions come on a gold bracelet paired with a gold bezel, while the 18k white gold version stands out with a Cerachrom bezel and Oysterflex bracelet. Let’s look at the Rolex Daytona Meteorite Collection for 2021.
As you would have understood, the main novelty for this trio of Daytonas is their dial made out of metallic meteorite (which is not a first for the iconic Rolex chronograph) with black chronograph counters at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. Metallic meteorite is rare and challenging to work with, but since its characteristic interwoven ‘Widmanstätten’ pattern occurs naturally, each dial is perfectly unique.
Rolex presents three versions. The white gold version is fitted with a monobloc scratch-proof Cerachrom bezel in black ceramic with a tachymetric scale and an Oysterflex bracelet. The other two watches, one in yellow gold and the other in Everose gold, feature a gold bezel paired with a gold Oyster bracelet. Like previous versions of the Cosmograph Daytona, the case is 40mm in diameter and is water-resistant to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet) thanks to its screw-down caseback pushers and crown.
Under the hood, no changes or surprises either as these new Daytonas are powered by the 4130, the Daytona engine since 2000, which requires little introduction. Featuring a column wheel and a vertical clutch, this modern self-winding chronograph is fitted with a blue Parachrom hairspring. Its power reserve is of 72 hours when fully wound. A Rolex Superlative Chronometer, its precision is in the order of −2 /+2 seconds per day.
Whether on Oyster or Oysterflex bracelets, all three versions are fitted with the Rolex-patented Oysterlock safety clasp to prevent any accidental opening.
The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Meteorite dial will be yours for CHF 32,500 in white gold, CHF 39,100 in yellow gold, CHF 41,700 in Everose gold.
