There’s far more to Omega than just its iconic sports watches, the Speedmaster and the Seamaster. Even though the brand has slightly simplified its offering over the years, two other collections, both focused on elegance, need to be mentioned. First is the Constellation, timepieces inspired by the brand’s most precise models of the past. Second is De Ville, which can be defined as the brand’s classic and elegant collection, including ladies models and sleek, refined watches for men. Today, the timeless, slightly 1960s-inspired De Ville Prestige collection is enlarged with 5 new references, which come with redesigned dials and luxurious combination of materials.
The De Ville Prestige is Omega’s collection for those who want to keep classic, elegant and restrained. Proportions are compact, dials are detailed, refined yet timeless, movements are relatively simple but still in line with Omega’s devotion to precision and reliability. The De Ville Prestige is all about beautiful materials and no-frills design. This year, while keeping with the classic codes of this watch, the collection is enlarged with new references that not only adds new colours and material combinations, but also slightly revised the layout.
All of these new Omega De Ville Prestige share the same proportions and design, with a 39.5mm case entirely polished, a relatively thin profile and a soft, classic shape that recalls 1950s and 1960s dress watches. The thin bezel has a domed profile and the lugs are short, for better comfort and the desired elegance. The dials, even though slightly redesigned with a new railway minute track, a combination of vertical and sunray brushed surfaces, a date window now positioned at 6 o’clock, retain the classic combination of applied Roman numerals and cabochons – a design that was used by Omega in the 1950s – and thin leaf-shaped hands.
Among these 5 new references, 4 of the models are time-and-date watches. Omega here plays on colours and materials. There are two stainless steel and 18k red gold models, both worn on two-tone 7-link bracelets. One has a silvery-white dial with gold-coloured hands and indexes, the other has a PVD linen-coloured dial with grey indexes and hands.
Also, there are two stainless steel and 18k yellow gold models. The first one is the boldest of the new references, with a two-tone polished bracelet and a dial with a dark PVD greened colour, where applied numerals and hands are gold-plated. The second model is worn on an alligator leather strap and is fitted with a PVD Moonshine Gold dial, with diamond indexes.
All 4 models are powered by Omega’s Calibre 2500, a strong evolution of the ETA 2892, equipped with the co-axial escapement. It run at 25,200 vibrations/hour and its power reserve is of 48 hours. Finally, it is chronometer-certified.
The fifth model in this new Omega De Ville Prestige collection is a different take on this watch, as it has a stainless steel case, a more contemporary blue dial and a different display. Indeed, it features a small seconds, a power reserve indicator and a date at 3 o’clock. It is worn on a blue alligator strap. Inside is the Calibre 2627, a movement based on the 2500, with additional complications. It is also chronometer-certified and comes with a co-axial escapement.
