In addition to its main 2020 novelty, the Free Bridge, Girard-Perregaux also benefits from the Geneva Watch Days to announce an exclusive distribution agreement with retailer Wempe across Germany. To celebrate this partnership, the brand is unveiling a special version of its steel sports watch with integrated bracelet fitted with a handsome black onyx dial, initially available exclusively from the German retailer. Meet the Girard-Perregaux Laureato 42mm “Infinity Edition”.
Even though it was only recently re-launched – first in 2016 with limited editions, followed by serial production models in 2017 – the Girard-Perregaux Laureato was, in 1975, amongst the first luxury sports watches along with the 1972 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and before the Patek Philippe Nautilus. The modern collection sticks to the original concept and design and boasts all the attributes of a luxury sports watch: a shaped stainless steel case; a complex faceted bezel; a textured dial; a thin automatic movement; a relative robustness combined with luxurious elements; and, of course, an integrated steel bracelet. Available in multiple sizes and with numerous movements, the time-and-date 42mm has been chosen by GP and Wempe to create a handsome limited edition with a unique dial.
Dubbed “Infinity Edition”, a sub-collection that is found in multiple ranges, this limited model of the Girard-Perregaux Laureato for Wempe is available in a stainless steel case of 42mm with matching bracelet. The main novelty is to be found on the dial side, which is crafted from black onyx with a glossy, polished surface. Contrasting with the deep colour, the indexes and logo are made from pink gold. The minutes and hours hands are rhodium-plated and the seconds hand is gold coloured. The date disc matches the colour of the dial, and thus remains discreet.
Inside the case is GP’s classic automatic, in-house built calibre GP1800. This 30mm movement has a gold-coloured central rotor. Beating at 4Hz, it boasts a comfortable power reserve of 54 hours and is finished in a pleasant way.
The Girard-Perregaux Laureato 42mm “Infinity Edition” will be produced in 188 pieces, only available from Wempe retailers in Germany, as well as NYC’s and London’s flagship stores, beginning in September 2020. Subsequently, both models will be available worldwide in authorised Girard-Perregaux retailers. Price remains to be confirmed.
