This year, the venerable manufacture Breguet has unveiled several new models, mostly refreshing some of its all-time – yet extremely desirable – Classique models, as well as introducing new blue guilloché dials. Already seen on the 7137 Moon & Power Reserve, these upgrades also made it to one of our favourite Breguet models, the superbly balanced 7337 Calendar & Moon, which gets new patterns for its guilloché dials and the addition of a more modern, very attractive blue model, which we’ll be both reviewing in our latest video.
The Classique 7337 is, like many Breguet models, inspired by glorious pocket watches created by Abraham-Louis Breguet, the 4579 and 3833 – both from the 1820s. The main attraction here comes from the unusual display, with an off-centred indication of the time topped by a series of three calendar indications – moonphase, date and day of the week. And this is where lies Abraham-Louis Breguet’s extraordinary talent for arranging disparate elements on a dial to create a harmonious effect. The result is original, almost unorthodox but so elegant and balanced.
For 2020, the Breguet Classique 7337 is adapted with two new versions, one with classic silver dial over a rose gold case and, unprecedented, a “Breguet Blue” dial encased in white gold. As you’ll in the video, both are entirely identical – colours apart – yet with different identities. Restrained and old-school on one side, modern and almost technical on the other side. The update also concerns the patterns used for the guillochage, which have been updated for a slightly more modern look. The moon disc is also now depicting a realistic surface instead of a “moon face” – again, more subtle and more modern. The execution of the dial is, as always, stunning.
For the rest, we find back the usual traits of the Breguet Classique 7337 Calendar & Moon, with a dressy 39mm case with fluted caseband and soldered lugs, and inside a beautifully decorated in-house automatic movement. But you’ll be able to discover all the details on this watch in the video review on top of this article.
