Introducing – Girard-Perregaux Quasar Azure

Originally presented in 2019, the Quasar is a bold iteration of the Girard-Perregaux Neo-Tourbillon, a futuristic take on the century-old Tourbillon with Three Bridges. With last year’s model, the striking design of this iconic movement was presented in all its glory inside a sapphire case revealing its architecture from all angles. Girard-Perregaux now unveils a new version of this model cased in blue sapphire crystal. Meet the Girard-Perregaux Quasar Azure.

The Tourbillon with three bridges holds a unique place in the history of Girard-Perregaux and in the history of watchmaking. The Quasar Azure honours this legacy by engineering transparency to the extreme. Measuring 46mm in diameter, its blue sapphire case is machined from a single block of sapphire that is meticulously polished to perfection. With its twin box sapphire crystals, it is built to maximize the view of the architectural skeletonized calibre – that is itself based on the principle of transparency.

This futuristic interpretation of the iconic Girard-Perregaux movement stands out with its 3-dimensional, symmetrical design magnified by its skeletonized structure. The signature Girard-Perregaux three bridges are no longer straight, flat or in gold, but instead arched, taut, rounded and openworked. Fashioned out of grade 5 titanium, these are set against the NAC-treated mainplate. A perfect counterpoint to the barrel, the tourbillon at 6 o’clock stands out with its signature GP lyre-shape cage. The micro-rotor is positioned underneath the barrel to preserve the superb design of this self-winding movement. The high inertia of this white gold oscillating weight ensures a minimum 60-hour power reserve.

The Girard-Perregaux Quasar Azure is released in a limited edition of eight pieces only. It is worn on an anthracite fabric strap with a metallic effect. The triple folding clasp comes in DLC-titanium. The watch is delivered with a spare blue alligator leather strap. Price is set at CHF 274,000.
