Launched in 2018, the Formex Essence is a sporty-casual all-rounder that marked an important step in the design language of a brand known for crafting rugged action watches. This accessible yet well-crafted model is now released in two ‘Space Rock’ limited editions, fitted with meteorite dials.
The ‘Space Rock’ name gives it away. If these two 50-piece limited editions retain the basic specifications of the Essence, their originality lies in their meteorite dials, which bring an original lively look. And as the pattern of the meteorite is the result of the crystallization of the stone, no two watches will have a similar dial.
The dynamic 43mm Essence case is proposed in either stainless steel or in ultra-light carbon composite with a ceramic bezel. Like all Formex watches, it features the brand’s patented case suspension system, which consists of integrating four springs between the upper and lower watch case. The aim is to absorb shocks while offering enhanced wrist comfort. The water-resistance is rated to 100m.
The Formex Essence Space Rock watches are powered either by the Sellita SW-200 for the steel version or by the STP-111 for the carbon model. Both movements are tried-and-tested Swiss-made ETA clones. Displaying the hours, minutes, seconds and the date, they share very similar specs. Their precision is certified by the COSC (the Swiss Chronometer testing institute). These automatic movements are visible via the exhibition caseback and their custom-built skeleton rotors feature thermally blued screws.
Different strap options are offered: nylon, rubber or Italian calf leather. The straps are fitted with a quick-release spring bar system that allows you to change the strap easily. The carbon fibre composite folding clasp can also be changed without tools. It features a patented fine adjustment system. Last, there is also a steel bracelet option.
Formex only sells directly to customers allowing the brand to offer excellent value for money. The Formex Essence Space Rock limited editions are priced at CHF 1,390 in steel on strap, CHF 1,515 in steel on bracelet and CHF 1,950 in carbon. The watches are available for pre-order only on formexwatch.com with an estimated shipping date by end of July 2020.
